Well another race day was upon us, time for round 3 of the National league, I was grateful for the late pick up, how things have changed; I used to believe there was no such thing as 7:30am on a Sunday morning and now I consider it a late start! Off we set, anxious about the day ahead and the change in weather from glorious sunshine to wet, dreary and bleak

We had managed to get together two boats for the event, which was excellent going considering we had so many experienced paddlers away in China and the like.

We knew it would be tough, both boats were light by two paddlers and the weather forecast was for rain. There was no chance of rotation and we couldn’t afford any injuries. At team talk Rob was optimistic as ever; ‘the sun will be coming out later’ we were ready to do our best.

Both the Dragons and the Flies had difficult 200m heats. The Flies were up against ExeCaliber and Crusaders in what turned out to be the hideous lane 3.

In the last 200m for the Flies we were up against ExeCaliber Blades, with a final push and awesome support from the bank we managed to take them, and take almost 4 seconds off our previous time.

It was a similar story in the 500m, conditions and lane draws were tough, but we were committed and showed great spirit. Both teams finished on a high, in their final race the Dragons managed to beat Batchworth, and the last race for Dragonflies was a successful one too, with a win against Notts Challengers.

All in all it was another fantastic day of racing and Rob was right, the sun did come out, there were a lot of faces that were as red as our shirts by the time we were enjoying our post racing pint. Great spirit, great day, Go Worcester!
