A Sad Loss to the Dragon Boating Community

It is with great regret that we announce the death of Tim Ward, our former Chairman, early on Monday 23rd July.

Tim remained an Honorary member of Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club and also a stalwart of the officials teams of the National Association for the last few years.

Tim suffered a massive heart attack at the home in France that he shared with his wife Polly. This will come as a tremendous shock to all those who have known Tim for many years.

Both Polly and Tim were due to be in Worcester to help us with the Race the Dragon regatta in August after helping with the collection of our new boat funded by a generous lottery grant from Awards For All.

Their contribution to Dragon Boat racing at club level and also nationally and internationally with the Under 18s has been as great as any in the sport. Tim was an ambassador for the sport and the club, a great coach and team manager of the Under 18 BNTS, a father figure to some and a mentor to many as well as a friend to all.

The thoughts and sympathy of all who knew Tim are with Polly, his children and the rest of his family at this very sad time.

The funeral was held in their new found home in France at 3PM on Thursday 26th July followed by cremation. A memorial service on 6th August at Salwarpe chruch near Droitwich was attended by family and many many friends from the world of Dragon Boat Racing and Tims ashes were scattered on the Severn from the steps where he helped launch so many paddling careers.

Please send all messages of condolence to

Tim, as many will remember him, with the Juniors.

Tim Ward
