Ring out the Old .... Ring in the New!

2010 has now come to an end, but what a year for Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club!

This was our first season as a Premier League club and we definitely made an impression at the league events throughout the season.  We were able to send 2 racing teams to each event, except for one, but more than made up for that at the Worcester event by racing 3 teams!  This was testament to the way our club has moved forward over the last few years, through hard work, dedication and positive training.  As well as being very visible at each event, we were also very audible and could possibly be strong contenders for the award for the loudest supporters too.   

At the end of the season Worcester Dragons were proud to finish 3^rd in the Premier League 500m table and 5^th in the 200m table, showing the strength and determination within the club.  Worcester Dragonflies excelled themselves by finishing 4^th in both the 500m and 200m Standard League table, improving their position by three impressive places.

In addition to these league achievements, 16 members of the club also paddled for GB in the European Championships, held in Amsterdam in August, and between them brought home a satisfying number of gold, silver and bronze medals. Training has already started for those who wish to be considered for the World Championships in Tampa, Florida in August 2011.

During 2010, Worcester Dragons have seen their membership increase substantially and as a result have been very excited to acquire new premises to accommodate its members.  The Committee worked hard to negotiate a partnership with Worcester Sea Cadets and now have the use of a clubhouse providing much needed shelter after a hard training session, and a base in which we can all socialise together.  Our first home!

So, onwards with 2011.  Lets hope that WDBRC can continue its successes in the dragonboat world, but as well as the hard work and training, lets hope we continue to enjoy the sport and have fun together whilst we achieve.
