Brewer's taste victory in Race The Dragon

Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club's annual charity regatta "Race The Dragon" is a huge success.

This year the banks of the Severn came alive as 26 teams competed in the annual event. After a frantic day's racing the Brewers Arms emerged victorious narrowly edging out Qraqen from QinetiQ, and Froude fighters.

In the plate competition less than 1/10th of a second separated Malvern Hills Conservators from Shaw Street Redemption with Knock On Effect coming in just behind.

This was the order of the day, with exciting racing for both participants and spectators and split seconds separating many heat times.  Worcester Dragons' own under-18 team, Severn Spiritz, were pipped to 2nd place by H2O in the Plate Minor Final, with 0.2 seconds separating all three teams - third place going to We Rock.  The excitement and shouts from the bank were amazing. 

The Severn Spiritz also finished first in the Under-18 competition, which was extremely fierce this year with Lyppard Youth coming a strong 2nd. 

White Watch Warriors recorded the fastest time of the competition with 1.29.20, but were disappointed to find themselves unable to reach the Cup Major Final and eventually finished 4th.  They have vowed to return next year to take that title from the Brewers Arms!

Many teams have told us that they enjoyed the day immensely.  It was good to see so many families and friends encouraging their crews, and the ladies on the barbecue worked their socks off to feed so many paddlers and supporters.  At the end of the day, everyone left tired, but extremely happy, having raised much appreciated funds for numerous charities.

This year's Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club's charity beneficiary will be Worcestershire Parent and Carer's Council.
